Agents

Agents and the school

External recruitment agents match students to educational institutions for a fee. Our agents offer a comprehensive portfolio of services. They give the School a presence in a number of countries it doesn't operate in. The expertise of agents in their own territories gives us an understanding of local market conditions, and enables us to better serve students in these countries. They enable the school to effectively participate in trade fairs, providing logistical support before and during the event and providing follow-up services to prospective students.

The School takes care to identify and manage its recruitment agents. As the School's agents are not employees of the School, it is important that we devise and implement clear systems for selecting, managing and monitoring our external recruitment agents - our reputation is at stake.

While the School does not use the services of agents extensively, it has an effective system for selecting, managing and monitoring its local and overseas agents. These policies have been successful, as our operation over 20 years shows.

Management of agents

The School has maintained its reputation for honesty and open dealing over many years. We consider it vital that agents accurately convey to prospective students and their guardians the corporate values of the institution they represent. Agents are not to engage in any misleading or unethical practices that are detriment to the interests and reputation of the School.

Our agents are trained to represent the school adequately, and must sign a contract and abide by a code of conduct.

Training programme for agents

The School has a training programme for its agents, which enables them to counsel prospective students effectively. The School conducts training sessions, during which agents are briefed on their roles and responsibilities. Agents may clarify any doubts during these sessions. If possible, the training is conducted in the native language of the agent, in the interest of clarity and to avoid misunderstanding. Training materials are provided, which are easily accessible for review and audit purposes.

Agency contract

The School requires individual agents to sign a contract. This contract is for a specified time and is renewable. The contract specifies

  • a contract period, which may be up to a year;
  • the agent's roles and responsibilities, and the indicators against which the agent's performance is measured;
  • the terms and conditions of engagement - this includes a requirement that the agent abide strictly by the code of conduct for agents;
  • conditions of termination;
  • action(s) by the School in the event that contract terms are breached;
  • the laws and regulations of Singapore under which the agent must operate and comply with.

Code of conduct for agents

The School has a code of conduct for its agents, which is also applicable to any staff member or person engaged by the School to recruit students on its behalf. The code of conduct stipulates that an agent will

  • fulfill all requirements defined in the Agency Agreement;
  • not engage in any unethical practice such as making claims, warranties, representations or statements which may be false, untrue, ambiguous, misleading, inaccurate or fraudulent;
  • abide by the laws and regulations of government agencies in Singapore and the territory(ies) in which it operates, in its role as an Agent of the School;
  • apply principles of fair trading when recruiting students and will not engage in high-pressure sales, "bait and switch" advertising or similar unfair practices;
  • not accept any fee or favour from any person other than the fee or commission as specified in the Agency Agreement;
  • not be negligent, careless or incompetent, or in any other way engage in practices that damage the reputation of the School;
  • consult the School to obtain any information or clarify any doubt in the course of fulfilling his responsibilities in the Agency Agreement.
